The Panda Kids

Last week's event at Cicero Family Sports was an end of summer celebration for the school age child care program, which sadly, is just wrapping up it's last year. If you haven't been out the the venue, you may want to check it out. It's a great place for family and personal fitness, offers all kinds of programs for kids, teens, adults and seniors, and is home of the Cicero Twin Ice Rinks.
Today's shout out is to the Panda Kids, who one after another, lined up and requested colorful panda face paintings. It started with the pink panda, who I thought was just being cool/funny/brave/trying to joke around. Then 4 more children followed suit, choosing reds, neons, and bright colors to accompany the panda's signature black markings.
I was already pleased with seeing such a diverse group of kids hanging out together. With so much hate and indifference in this world, it does my heart good to see kids of different races, religions and physical abilities enjoying each other's company.
When I finally asked what the panda thing was all about, one of the panda kids told me it was a tribute to their friend (nicknamed Panda), who no longer attended the program. How sweet is THAT?! And if that's not sweet enough, one panda, the green one, graciously stepped out of line to offer the 3 year old girl behind him his spot (so she didn't have to wait).
*wipes away a tear*
How blessed I am to have the honor, the privilege to be able to work with such wonderful children every weekend! My heart is happy. Way to go, Panda Kids! You guys made my day!
